About Jae Turner

I teach U.S. History at Middle Tennessee State University. I am also a Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Scholar and a public historian. I hold a PhD from Emory University in WGSS and work in the areas of 20th century U.S. material, visual, and popular culture. I also have expertise in the emerging field of digital history as well as historic preservation and archival studies.

Check out my companion site, The Artworks of Mary E. Hutchinson at http://met.omeka.net, which is a “work in progress” digital archiving product of my current research project.

My web icon is both a digital homage to the mythic origins of portraiture as the capture of a shadow, and a critique of the insistence of web communities upon profiles and visible identities.
